Grocery Innovations Canada (GIC) 2026 is set to return to Toronto on October 27–28, 2026, bringing together retailers, suppliers, emerging brands, technology providers, and grocery industry decision-makers at the Toronto Congress Centre.

Positioned as one of Canada’s leading grocery industry events, GIC provides a platform for businesses to discover new products, explore emerging retail technologies, build industry relationships, and gain insight into the trends influencing the future of grocery and convenience retail. The event attracts owners, executives, category managers, buyers, and operational teams from independent grocers, national chains, and specialty retail formats.

For Canada’s vending and unattended retail industry, events such as GIC are increasingly relevant as the lines between traditional grocery, convenience, micro markets, smart stores, and automated retail continue to overlap. Many of the products and technologies being developed for modern grocery environments; from grab-and-go food and beverages to point-of-sale systems, AI, security, payment technology, equipment, and store design; can also influence how unattended retail operators build and manage their locations.

Technology will have a notable presence at this year’s event. Categories represented across the GIC show floor include AI and technology, point of sale, security systems, equipment, prepared meals, natural products, frozen foods, dairy and deli, baked goods, general merchandise, transportation, and environmental services, alongside a broad range of food and beverage suppliers.

Product discovery will also remain a major component of the show. GIC will feature its New Product Showcase, providing attendees with an opportunity to explore new launches and emerging brands in one location. The event also includes Category Connect, which facilitates pre-scheduled meetings between retailers and suppliers, along with conference sessions, networking opportunities and industry awards.

The scale of the event highlights its importance within Canadian retail. According to GIC, its 2025 event attracted more than 6,390 grocery professionals, over 700 exhibitors and more than 1,800 companies.

For vending operators, the value of following events like Grocery Innovations Canada extends beyond the grocery sector itself. New packaged products discovered at grocery trade shows can potentially translate into new vending and micro-market offerings, while developments in payments, AI, retail technology, security and store operations can provide an early indication of where unattended retail may be heading next.

The continued expansion of micro markets and smart retail concepts has also created more crossover between vending and traditional retail. Operators are no longer limited to conventional snacks and beverages; many locations now incorporate fresh food, prepared meals and broader product assortments. As these formats develop, grocery-industry trends can provide useful insight into changing consumer expectations, product innovation and technology.

GIC 2026 will include conference programming and networking beginning October 26, followed by the main trade show on October 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and October 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Toronto Congress Centre, North Building.

For Canadian vending and unattended retail professionals, Grocery Innovations Canada is another industry event worth watching; not only for the products appearing on grocery shelves today, but for the technologies, consumer trends and retail concepts that could influence the next generation of unattended retail.
